AI Cold Call Simulator: Train Your Team for Real Phone Conversations
On the phone, everything is decided in seconds: your voice, your pace, your first sentence, the way you react to “I don’t have time.” An AI cold call simulator lets your team rehearse those moments out loud, against a virtual counterpart that answers, hesitates, pushes back and can be interrupted.
Cold calls, quote follow-ups, a dissatisfied customer’s complaint: every simulated call ends with a detailed debrief. You can try the online demo, free and with no account required.

Why practice cold calling out loud, not just in writing
A well-written answer says nothing about how it will sound. On the phone, the customer has only your voice to form an opinion: a hesitant tone, a rushed delivery or a badly handled silence is enough to ruin a good pitch.
- Tone and pace can only be trained out loud, never by reading a script.
- Silences are scary: people fill them, when they are often a signal to use.
- Interruptions are frequent on calls, and you learn to bounce back instead of starting over.
- Phone anxiety fades with repetition, away from a real customer’s ear.
The general principle of AI roleplay is covered in our guide to AI sales roleplay. This page focuses on voice and phone.
How an AI cold call simulator works
A configurable virtual counterpart
You define the role of the person you call (assistant, finance director, procurement lead, angry customer…), their personality (rushed, wary, courteous, irritated) and their AI profile. The scenario, called a mission, can be enriched with your own documents (offer, sales pitch, product sheets) so the conversation reflects your real situation.
Supported voice engines
The voice conversation relies on market-leading engines: ElevenLabs, OpenAI Realtime Audio and Azure AI Speech, depending on the configuration you choose. You can interrupt the AI mid-sentence, just as you would a real counterpart. For the language model, the choice is open (Mistral, OpenAI, Azure, Gemini, deepseek or a self-hosted model).
Observer feedback and detailed debrief
An observer agent coaches you discreetly during the call, without breaking the immersion. Afterwards, a detailed debrief reviews what worked and what needs to improve: listening, rephrasing, argumentation, emotional management, closing. The criteria can be adapted to your own standards.
Five phone call scenarios to work on first
Cold call: book a meeting
The counterpart is a busy decision maker who did not expect your call. Goal: justify the call in two sentences, ask an open question and propose a specific slot. Work on: the opener, and your reaction to “just send me an email.”
Getting past a gatekeeper
The assistant screens calls and asks the reason. Goal: stay courteous, concise and credible without lying or pushing, and reach either the decision maker or a better time to call back. Work on: how you phrase the reason for calling.
Following up on a quote
The quote went out three weeks ago and silence has set in. Goal: find out where the project stands and get a decision or a date, accepting a clear “no.” Avoid: “just checking in.”
Inbound complaint from an unhappy customer
The customer calls already irritated. Goal: let them speak, rephrase, acknowledge the problem, then propose a concrete next step. This scenario matters for support as well as sales teams, and extends our pages on the AI simulator for customer support.
Renewal call
The contract is nearing its end and usage is average. Goal: start from the customer’s results, bring out a complementary need and identify who holds the budget.
Nine more sales situations, with their scoring criteria, are in our library of AI sales roleplay scenarios.
Text or voice: which format to choose
| Goal | Text | Voice |
|---|---|---|
| Prepare a call outline | Ideal | Useful for rehearsal |
| Work on tone, pace and silences | Limited | Essential |
| Handle an interruption | Hardly realistic | Realistic, the AI can be cut off |
| Practice quietly, without a microphone | Convenient | Needs a quiet place |
| Get close to the real situation | Partial | Closest to the field |
In practice, many teams alternate: text to set the structure of the call, voice to make it sound natural.
Technical requirements and voice data
For a voice simulation, you only need a recent browser, a microphone and a stable connection. A headset is recommended: it prevents echo and blocks background noise, especially in an open office.
Data questions (where conversations are processed, which language model, which voice engine) are settled at configuration time. AI-Coaching can be hosted in the cloud or installed locally (on-premise), with the language model of your choice. If your security policy sets precise requirements on audio data, try the demo first, then tell us about your context.
Building simulated calls into a pathway or playlist
One simulated call helps; a series of progressive calls builds a habit. AI-Coaching lets you group scenarios into pathways and playlists: for example, cold call, then gatekeeper, then follow-up, with rising difficulty.
- Individual and team tracking through the skills map and each person’s progress.
- Secure link sharing, with an expiry date and usage limit, to invite a team without creating accounts one by one.
- Separate profiles (operator, editor, user) to keep scenario design, administration and practice apart.
- LMS compatibility through SCORM, to fit pathways into your training platform.
To see the whole sales-side platform, go to the AI sales simulator. If you are weighing simulation before the call against analysis of recorded calls, our comparison of AI roleplay vs. call analysis helps you choose.

Frequently asked questions
Can you practice a phone call with an AI?
Yes. In voice mode you talk to a virtual counterpart that answers out loud and reacts to your tone, your hesitations and your arguments. You can interrupt it, as in a real call. Every session ends with a detailed debrief, and an observer can coach you discreetly during the call.
What is the difference between a voice simulation and a chat simulation?
Chat is good for preparing the structure of a conversation at your own pace. Voice recreates the constraints of the phone: speaking without notes, handling silence, bouncing back after an interruption. Both use the same scenarios and counterparts, so you can start in text and move on to speaking.
Is the AI voice realistic, and can you choose it?
The result depends on the voice engine you choose: AI-Coaching relies on market-leading solutions such as ElevenLabs, OpenAI Realtime Audio or Azure AI Speech, depending on the configuration. The engine is selected with you at setup. The simplest way to judge is to get in touch for a walkthrough of voice mode.
Can you interrupt the AI like in a real call?
Yes, interrupting the AI is possible in voice mode. It matters for training: a real customer cuts in, pushes back or hangs up, and you learn to stay calm and take back control. That is easier to practice out loud than in a written chat, where there is always time to reread before answering.
Do you need a headset or special equipment?
A recent browser, a microphone and a stable connection are enough. A headset with a microphone is recommended: it limits echo from the AI’s voice reaching your microphone and shields you from background noise. If possible, pick a quiet spot, as you would for a real call.
Where is the data from a simulated call processed?
It depends on your configuration. AI-Coaching can run in the cloud or be installed locally (on-premise), with the language model of your choice: Mistral, OpenAI, Azure, Gemini, deepseek or a self-hosted model. The voice engine is a choice too. For precise requirements on audio data, tell us about your context before deployment.
