AI Roleplay and SCORM: Integrate Simulations Into Your LMS

Your LMS tracks training, but it cannot make people practice a difficult conversation. An AI simulation platform does, yet your learning team wants tracking to stay in one place. SCORM is the standard that links the two: content opens from the LMS and reports its status back. AI-Coaching’s SCORM compatibility is available.

This page explains what SCORM is, what a SCORM export generally brings, how an LMS and a simulation platform complement each other, and above all which questions to ask for a successful integration into your LMS. The technical detail (SCORM version, configuration, data reported) is validated with you in a demo, because it depends on your platform.

What an LMS expects from a learning activity

An LMS is a learning department’s system of record: it enrolls learners, offers learning paths, keeps history and produces reports. For an outside activity to fit in, it generally expects four things.

  • A simple launch. The learner clicks in the LMS and lands in the activity, with no extra steps.
  • A progress status. The LMS knows whether the activity is started, completed or not completed.
  • A result. A score or a pass status, usable in a pathway or for an internal certificate.
  • A single entry point. Teams find everything in one place, without multiplying tools to monitor.

A conversational simulation fits this pattern well: a session has a beginning, an end and an assessment. That is why integration through a standard such as SCORM matters so much to LMS and digital learning managers.

SCORM in brief: a standard to connect content to an LMS

SCORM (Sharable Content Object Reference Model) is a set of specifications created by ADL (Advanced Distributed Learning), a program of the US Department of Defense. It defines how learning content is packaged, how it launches from an LMS and how it communicates information such as completion or score back to it.

Several editions of the standard exist, notably SCORM 1.2 and SCORM 2004. They do not behave identically in every LMS, which is one reason to test the integration in your own environment. ADL documents SCORM on its website (see the sources at the bottom of the page). Other specifications, such as xAPI, also exist for different needs.

For neighboring terms (LMS, LXP, xAPI, LTI), see the AI roleplay and simulation glossary.

SCORM and AI-Coaching: what is available, what we validate with you

AI-Coaching’s SCORM compatibility is available. In practice, a SCORM export generally brings a learning team three benefits:

  • Completion tracking: the LMS knows who finished the activity.
  • Score or status: a result is usable in the LMS, for example to validate a step in a pathway.
  • Centralization: the simulation activity shows up in the catalog and in training reports, next to your other modules.

What exactly the LMS receives (status, score, duration, details) depends on the SCORM version chosen and your platform’s configuration. We therefore do not state it here as a general rule: this is validated with you, on your LMS, in a demo. It is also the moment to check what matters to you, such as how a resumed session behaves or how it appears in your reports.

The online demo is free and needs no account: you can first try an AI roleplay session to judge the content before discussing integration.

LMS and simulation platform: two complementary roles

The LMS does not replace the simulation platform, nor the other way round. Each does what it does best.

The LMSThe AI-Coaching simulation platform
Enrollment, catalog, history and administrative reportingPractice conversations in text or voice with a configurable virtual counterpart
Overall learning paths, across all topicsPathways and playlists of scenarios, to link a skills gap to specific exercises
Distribution across the whole organizationSharing through secure links, with expiry and usage limits
Completion trackingReal-time coaching and detailed debrief by the AI observer, skills mapping

The LMS provides the frame and the overview. The platform brings what a standard module cannot: scenarios enriched with your documents (RAG), configurable personas, a choice of language models (Mistral, OpenAI, Azure, Gemini, deepseek or self-hosted), ElevenLabs, OpenAI Realtime or Azure Speech voices, and cloud or on-premises deployment. Three profiles share the work: the operator administers, the editor designs scenarios, the user practices.

Three contexts where LMS integration matters

Internal training

A learning department rolls out simulations to sales, support or management teams and wants them in the same tracking as the rest of the training plan. See the AI simulator for internal training.

Schools and training centers

Teachers offer practice situations (interviews, negotiation, reception) inside a pathway already hosted on the institution’s platform. See the AI simulator for schools.

Independent trainers and training providers

Trainers add practical exercises to modules delivered to their clients. See the AI simulator for trainers.

In each case, the right question is not “SCORM, yes or no?” but “what must my LMS show, and what must I be able to prove?”.

Checklist: questions to ask before integrating into your LMS

These questions apply to any simulation vendor, AI-Coaching included. Ask them to your LMS administrator and to us before committing.

Format and version

  • Does your LMS accept SCORM 1.2, SCORM 2004, or both? Which edition of SCORM 2004?
  • Which version does the simulation platform export, and which do you recommend for your LMS?
  • How is the package imported (file, link, updates)?

Launch and access

  • Does the learner sign in once, from the LMS?
  • What happens if a session is interrupted and then resumed?
  • Does the LMS allow the browser microphone in the launch window, if you use voice?

Tracking and data

  • What information reaches the LMS: completion, pass, score, duration?
  • Where do you view session detail (debrief, skills mapping): in the LMS or in the platform?
  • Who sees what: learner, manager, learning team?

Content and updates

  • Must the package be re-exported when a scenario changes, or is content updated at the source?
  • How do you manage scenario versions for successive cohorts?

Security and hosting

  • Cloud or on premises? Which language model and which voice engine?
  • Which requirements from your IT department and data protection officer apply to conversation data?

Other standards

  • Do you need xAPI, LTI or an API in addition to SCORM?

SCORM, xAPI, LTI: which one for your need

These acronyms are not rivals: they answer different needs.

StandardWhat it doesConsider it when
SCORMPackages content, launches it from the LMS and reports the activity status backYour LMS is the entry point and you want to track completion and result
xAPIDescribes learning experiences as statements sent to a record store (LRS)You want to analyze finer-grained activity, or activity outside the LMS
LTIConnects an external tool to the LMS, opened without a separate sign-inYou want an integrated launch of a full tool

AI-Coaching’s SCORM compatibility is available. If xAPI, LTI or an API are part of your requirements, raise them in the demo: we scope with you what meets your need rather than promising a default format.

A four-step approach to scope the integration

  1. Pick a use case. One population, one skill, one scenario (for example sales negotiation or an interview).
  2. Try the demo. It is free and needs no account. You judge the content, the observer and the debrief before talking technology.
  3. Validate the integration with your LMS. SCORM version, configuration, data reported: we check them with you, on your platform.
  4. Deploy in stages. A small group first, then wider pathways, guided by the skills matrix.

Meanwhile, nothing forces you to wait for the integration to start: an exercise can be shared through a secure link (expiry, usage limit) while the integration is being prepared.

Frequently asked questions

Can an AI simulation be exported to SCORM?

Yes, AI-Coaching’s SCORM compatibility is available. The SCORM version, the configuration and the information reported to your LMS depend on your platform: we validate them with you in a demo, on your use case, rather than stating them as a general rule.

What is the difference between SCORM, xAPI and LTI?

SCORM packages content and lets it communicate with an LMS for completion and score. xAPI describes learning experiences as statements sent to a record store. LTI connects an external tool to the LMS for a launch with no separate sign-in. They meet different needs and are sometimes combined.

How do I track simulation results in my LMS?

With a SCORM export, an LMS generally receives a completion status and a result. The exact detail depends on the version and the configuration. For the pedagogical detail of a session (the observer’s debrief, skills mapping), the simulation platform remains the most complete source.

Which LMS are compatible?

SCORM is a widespread standard, but its behavior varies across LMS and versions. Rather than give a general list, we recommend testing the integration on your own platform with your administrator. Tell us your LMS and its version when you request a demo and we will check together.

Can I use AI-Coaching without an LMS?

Yes. Simulations are practiced on the platform, with three profiles (operator, editor, user) and pathways or playlists. An exercise can also be shared through a secure link with an expiry date and a usage limit. An LMS becomes useful when you want to centralize tracking with the rest of your training offer.

How do I start the integration?

First try the free demo, no account needed, to judge the content. Then request a demo and tell us your LMS, its version and your use case. We validate the SCORM version, the configuration and the useful data with you before any rollout to your teams.
